Applying from the car

My name is Demi Kieviet, I am 18 years old and doing an internship in Málaga for half a year. I’m following the media management course, I’m in my 3rd year and I’m doing half of my internship abroad.

I asked JongLeren to help me find the internship. This did not go entirely smoothly…  A few months before departure, they started looking for an internship. After having had a few conversations about my wishes and the requirements from school, they had found a super nice company for me that suited me completely. I agreed and the papers could be signed. It will take quite some time before everything is approved and signed.

In the meantime, an accommodation was being sought and I was already planning the trip to Spain. The company had now been approved and only an internship agreement had to be signed by the company, the company gentleman was on vacation and would sign it as soon as he returned.

A week before I left for Malaga I got a call from Ilvy that my internship was canceled because there were problems with the rent of the company’s office. At that moment I just stayed calm and didn’t worry for a moment. I always have faith that everything will be fine and so it was then. Ilvy and Marisa estimated that there was a good chance that another company could be found. I relied on that.

Without an internship I went to Málaga with my mother. When we arrived at our first overnight stay, I was called that there are 2 companies where I could possibly do an internship, but that meant that I had to have an interview, of course, while I was on my way to Málaga. Fortunately, the first interview was early and I could still do it from the hotel. The second call went a little differently, the range was occasionally bad along the way so we had moved it a few times during that ride. Meanwhile I was behind the wheel and I received a call from the company. While driving I had the conversation until we arrived at the Tol on the way and I couldn’t get the ticket for the barrier. It went completely wrong and in the meantime I was still talking to the company, my mother got out on her bare feet to put in the card. The door was still open and I had driven through the barrier, my mother running after it hahahahahahaha. The conversation was ultimately super positive and she didn’t notice anything, I’m doing an internship at this company now and I’m having a great time!

It doesn’t always go the way you want it to, but if you have faith that everything will be fine, everything will be fine! I was not delayed and I was able to start my internship on time. It’s super nice to have JongLeren to help you for situations like this, they know the language and customs that you don’t know yet in a foreign country.
